By
studying the years between World War I and World War II as a single
era, this course attempts to analyze connections and ruptures between
the Weimar Republic and Third Reich. The course, first, uses several
larger, synthetic works to study the contours of historiography
on interwar Germany. Then, in order to dig into these larger historiographical
issues, we look closely at primary and secondary materials relating
to gender, race, and culture. Three exemplary papers from each of
those topics are posted here. Every student, as well, completed
a detailed research project that sought to study connections between
the Weimar and Nazi years. Several of those projects are also posted
here.
