HETEROKONTAE II: METHODS IN SCIENCE

MONDAY FEBRUARY 25

THE SEPARATE HOUR

DIALOGUE 14 We will continue with taxa from the supergroup CHROMALVEOLATA.  This time we will discuss the phylum Apicomplexa within the kingdom ALVEOLATAE and begin to discuss taxa within the kingdom HETEROKONTAE.  Come prepared to discuss and ask questions about the following phyla: Apicomplexata, Opalinida, Labyrinthulomorpha, and Chrysophyta.  In order for this to be a rewarding exchange, you must come prepared with appropriate taxonomies and data sheets from the kingdoms ALVEOLATAE and HETEROKONTAE.

Concepts and Terms for Dialogue 14:  Please access the appropriate concepts and terms for the taxa covered today through the front pages of the kingdoms ALVEOLATAE and HETEROKONTAE.  Any of these terms could be used in the next Game.

THE COMMON HOUR

GAME 5. Please come prepared with information from last week. The categories will be TAXONOMY, ANATOMY, PHYLOGENY.  As before, much of this information comes from the Taxa of Life website, Holt (2007), The Origin (chapter 6), cultures, slides, and preserved specimens from the last week of class.
