horseshoecrab Horseshoe Crab from te SU collection submitted by Marie Maradeo;
Approximately 20 cm across.  The curved hard shell makes it difficult for predators to overturn them and expose their soft, vulnerable underbellies. The horseshoe crab can also go a year without eating and endure extreme temperatures and salinity.
