
The Program: A program of study concentrating on the history, culture and biogeography of one of the world's
most arid countries. Approximately 21 days in June, 2011 with stays in New South Wales, the Northern Territory
and far northern Queensland. Study tour includes opportunities to spend time in the rainforest, dive on the
Great Barrier Reef, walk at the sacred aboriginal sites of Uluru and Kata Tjuta and tour the historic and beautiful
city of Sydney.
The program functions as a 2-credit course that satisfies the University Cross Cultural require-
ment and includes a written, reflective review and a group project, both of which will be completed during the
following semester. Courses Biological Issues in Australia (2SH) and Environmental Psychology (4SH), should be
taken in the spring semester prior to travel.

We are preparing for the next Focus Australia trip in 2011 and have twelve student spaces. Projected all-inclusive program costs are US$5600 but note that Financial Aid may be available. The program includes all flights, accomodation,activities, ground transportation and food. The cost of becoming scuba-dive certified are in addition to the program costs but the costs of the dives in Australia are built-in to the program cost.

Student trip 2009.
Twelve students and three faculty travelled. This time, we spent a few days in and around Alice Springs in addition to our normal program. The costs were $5400 per student.
Student trip 2007
Eleven students and two faculty travelled to Australia in 2007. While the trip was substantially similar to that of previous years, several new activities were introduced. The costs were $5000 per student.
Student trip 2005
The 2005 trip went with 10 students and was similar to the Focus 2001, and 2003 programs (Sydney, Uluru and Northern Queensland) though with some changes in emphasis. Costs were $4800 per student (all inclusive) plus any money for incidentals.
Student trip 2003
The 2003 tour cost $4300, and included two course credits as well as all transport, board, food and activity fees. This amount factored in a suggested food budget of AUS$50 per day. We suggested that an additional sum in the order of AU$500 for incidentals, entertainment and gifts etc would be appropriate. Twelve students and two faculty made the trip. There is no photo trip report for this year but a 48minute DVD is available for loan.
The 2001 Focus Australia Program. involved two couses, Biological Issues in Australia and Environmental Psychology, followed by an 18-day study tour of the country. The program cost $3900. Ten students and two faculty made the trip.
